Scholars Table

I made this in the summer of 2011,  for a collaborative show that Lisa Dorr and I did together at the New Era Gallery on Vinalhaven, Maine.

The top is polished old beams, and thick old steel strap. The base is  made of big chunks of Spanish Cedar that are hammered, burnt and polished

My Father named it a “Scholars Table” which he said was a type of table in Chinese furniture, I think like an end table, or curiosity table. Don’t know much more about the name,  except it stuck. Also, It was fun to build.

It is 27″h x 30″ w x  65″l
